Argentine Tango is one the the many dances which are popularized by movies or films. I was very inspired by Andy Lau and Anita Mui for dancing Tango in the show titled '爱君如梦'. Even till today, the dance scene still stay so vivid and fresh in my mind:)
There are also other films like 'Take the Lead', 'Shall We Dance' and 'Dirty Dancing' which showcase ballroom/latin dances and it is really very inspiring watching those lead actor and actresses performing beautiful dances.
Early in the year, button bear and I attended an elementary ballroom Tango class from WM Dance School but we didn't manage to continue to the next level due to a clash in timing. Subsequently, we attended another single session lesson to learn Sevillanas / Flamenco at the Esplanade and it was really very fun;D
So this time, we decided to attend the Argentine Tango workshop organised by the Esplanade in conjunction with Da:ns festival 2007.
The workshop is held in Esplanade theater's rehearsal studio and it's really really big for a dance studio. Coincidentally, Eileen and Martin also went for the exact same class and we only knew that we have all signed up for the same class when we met in the studio:P Actually, there's a gut feeling telling me that they might be joining since we all love ballroom and latin dances.

The two of them commented that it is any dancer's dream to dance in such spacious dance floor and which I totally agree! This is at least 15times of Xen Bar?
Lesson Proper...
For the first fifteen minutes, we had to learn the Tango walk in which we have to lean our body forward such that we are pivoting only on our toes. Basically, the whole idea is to balance while making your body seems to be toppling over. While it sounds so easy, it is actually so hard!!! No wonder both the instructors have got very very pouted butts (i want i want!!):P
Subsequently, we went on to partner dancing and it is a real sad case for us.... The instructors insisted on separating men and women due to the uneven numbers in the class; more girls than guys. Off course, the four of us were super reluctant since we are most comfortable with our partners however there was strong insistent from the guy instructor.

I think it affects us (girls) quite a bit

Personally I was very upset as we have to dance with a lot of other guys and you know... it can be really freaking especially in a social setting (sch is still ok)...
So there were guys who were much taller or shorter and those we have got severe 2 left-feet when they need to lead the dance. Not to mention, there were also guys who hold you like so tightly and worst, with BO & bad breath *faint*.
In pair dancing, the embrace is very crucial. Only proper embracing can lead to beautiful coordination or in fact proper dancing. So without my partner, I felt quite 'impaired' since it feels so weird being in close distant to another stranger.
Nonetheless, Eileen and I decided to just pair together and dance girl-girl since we also did that in salsa and we had quite a lot of fun;D

Then again, we got separated by that guy instructor
If that guy instructor is as charming as Kelvin of Two-Left-Feet, I wouldn't mind so much being separated times and again. By the way, Kelvin is really cute (Jermaine would agree too) and I felt very honored to be his dance partner for 2 X 2.5 hrs lessons during level 2B *happy*:D The way he led a dance makes you feel so ohhhh-lala~ basically in really good hands (just like Andy Lau led Anita Mui in Tango).
Anyway, it was quite a traumatising experience dancing with some of those guys especially one of them. He had all those traumatsing factors that I mentioned above and it feels like hell for that 5-8 minutes.
Eventually, I really could not put up with all other guys and just glued myself to Button Bear for the last twenty minutes of the class even though he cue for change of partner *don't care*
The last twenty minutes was the most enjoyable part of the class which puts all misery to an end.
Finally just before we left from the studio, we had Martin to help us take a shot which is the first ever dancing pose shoot we have taken:)

Thus, we left our foot prints @ esplanade rehearsal studio on 1st Sept!

That marks our dancing date...

Some random shots on our way to Esplanade...
